## The story

Apple has opened preorders for its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, at a starting price of $1,999 for the 256‑GB model. The device, unveiled at Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event, features a 5.4‑inch outer display that expands to a 7.6‑inch Super Retina XDR panel. It runs on the A20 Pro chip, shares the 48‑megapixel fusion camera with the iPhone 18 Pro, and is built with an IP68 rating and Ceramic Shield 2 on the back. Touch ID is the only biometric option, as the phone lacks Face ID, and Apple Pencil support is slated for a later update. Preorders are available through Apple and Best Buy, with the device scheduled to ship on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026. Carrier offers include up to $1,200 off with AT&T trade‑ins, $1,000 off from T‑Mobile, and a $40 activation‑fee waiver from Verizon. AT&T also provides up to $800 in reward‑card credit for new line activations, while Verizon’s Simplicity Pro plan bundles the phone with extra perks for a monthly fee. The Duo will be available in Star White and Night Sky, with Apple Pencil support expected later in the year.
