## The story

Former Movistar Plus content chief Domingo Corral has secured a new production deal with HBO Max to develop scripted television and film. Following his unexpected departure from the Telefonica-owned company in 2025, Corral aims to produce independent content that balances premium quality with mainstream appeal. His first project under this new agreement focuses on the disappearance of a petty criminal in 1980s Spain during the nation's transition to democracy.

Corral will collaborate with senior Skydance executives Sarah Aubrey and Casey Bloys to realize his vision for high-end storytelling. Reflecting on his eleven-year tenure at Movistar, he argued that successful productions can simultaneously win awards and attract large subscriber bases. He noted that his previous work required balancing creative ambitions with the financial realities of a telecommunications giant.

His exit from Movistar sparked significant backlash from the Spanish creative community, including an open letter signed by prominent figures like Pedro Almodóvar. While Movistar attributed the departures to an organizational restructure, Corral expressed confusion regarding the decision to terminate his team. He remains focused on his new independent career and the upcoming HBO projects.
