## The story

Harry Kane has been named the world’s best centre‑forward, edging out Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland, according to a new definitive ranking. The list, released this week, places the 33‑year‑old England striker at the top after a 2025‑26 campaign in which he scored 61 goals across all competitions, earning his second European Golden Shoe. Experts cited Kane’s tactical intelligence, aerial ability, link‑up play and finishing prowess as key reasons for his selection, despite the raw goal tally being similar to his rivals. Mbappé, who finished as the World Cup’s top scorer with 10 goals, and Haaland, who has been praised for his strength and instinct, occupy the second and third spots. The ranking also highlights other elite forwards, including Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martínez, who have already begun the 2026‑27 season strongly. The announcement comes as the new season is underway, setting the stage for a continued battle among the world’s leading goal‑scorers. The announcement underscores Kane’s recognition as a modern No. 9 and may influence future transfer speculation.
