## The story

Two teenage brothers in Carmel, Indiana, rescued a grandmother and her two young grandchildren after they fell into a retention pond. Maddox Larger, 15, and his 14-year-old brother, Grant, rushed to help on Monday morning after hearing a loud splash near the water.

Upon investigating, the boys discovered the grandmother struggling to stay afloat with a four-year-old strapped to her back, while a two-year-old remained submerged inside a stroller. Because neither the grandmother nor the older child could swim, Maddox entered the water and pulled both of them to the edge with his brother's assistance. Maddox then dove back down to unbuckle the submerged stroller, pulling the toddler to safety and patting his back until the child coughed up water and began breathing again.

Meanwhile, Grant contacted emergency services, ensuring first responders arrived at the scene around 11:15 a.m. to take over care of the conscious children. Local police and fire officials credited the boys' quick intervention with preventing a fatal drowning, and the Carmel City Council plans to formally honor the brothers at a meeting in November.
