## The story

Lexi Potter made her first start for the England women’s team in the second leg of the World Cup play‑off against Greece at the King Power Stadium, playing 60 minutes in a 5‑0 victory that sealed an 8‑1 aggregate win. The 20‑year‑old Chelsea midfielder was praised for breaking up attacks, delivering accurate passes and creating space for teammates such as Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway and Lauren James. She even had a goal disallowed, but her overall performance convinced the coaching staff that she could be a starter if the Lionesses reach the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Potter admitted she was nervous before the match, having lost her phone, but described the experience as “almost a dream come true.” The England side now faces Ukraine in the final play‑off round before a Nations League campaign against top‑20 teams. The match was a significant milestone for Potter, who has only recently broken into the national squad, and it signals her growing importance in England’s future plans. The result also boosts confidence ahead of the upcoming qualifiers.
