## The story

Netflix began as a DVD‑rental service and grew to a streaming giant with over 325 million subscribers. Its breakthrough came when it started producing original series, turning the platform into a cultural force. The first Netflix‑made drama, House of Cards, was an adaptation of a British series that helped the company establish itself as a serious contender for prestige television. The show’s political thriller format and star‑powered performances set a new standard for binge‑watchable content. Stranger Things followed, blending 1980s nostalgia with supernatural horror and a massive per‑episode budget, cementing Netflix’s status as a global brand. Bridgerton, a period drama from Shondaland, drew record viewership, with its first season reaching 82 million households in 28 days. Orange is the New Black introduced a diverse ensemble and a prison‑drama perspective, while Love, Death & Robots showcased animated storytelling. Together, these series illustrate how Netflix’s focus on binge‑able, recognizable‑face programming has defined the streaming landscape.
