Spanning over 700 acres atop a high hill overlooking the plains of Mewar, Chittorgarh Fort stands as an indestructible symbol of Rajput honor, pride, and architectural grandiosity. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this vast fortress complex encompasses majestic palaces, towering victory monuments, and serene water bodies.
Key Architectural Marvels Inside the Fort
1. Vijay Stambha (Tower of Victory)
Built by Maharana Kumbha in 1448 to commemorate his victory over the combined armies of Malwa and Gujarat, this 9-story tower stands 37 meters tall. Intricately carved from red sandstone and white marble, every exterior panel depicts Hindu deities and mythological scenes.
2. Padmini Palace & Gaumukh Kund
Nestled near a tranquil water reservoir, Rani Padmini’s palace offers breathtaking reflections in the surrounding moat. Nearby lies the Gaumukh Kund, a natural spring carved like a cow’s mouth that continuously feeds fresh water into the reservoir.
