LG Display Unveils FLiPP OLED Tech for Laptops
LG Display has introduced FLiPP, a new OLED manufacturing process that eliminates fine metal masks and uses photolithography to refine the organic emissive layers. The company said the technique raises production efficiency from 75% to over 93% and improves material utilization from 40% to 74%. In addition, FLiPP boosts pixel aperture to 65% and can increase luminance by 1.6 times, extend lifespan by 2.4 times, or cut power consumption by 13%. The technology is still in early development, with LG Display planning to start mass production around late 2027, targeting 23.5‑inch panels for monitors and laptops. The first commercial units are expected to appear at CES 2028. LG Display is evaluating whether existing LCD and WOLED lines can be adapted for FLiPP or if new facilities are needed, but prefers to reuse current plants. The company’s CTO, Choi Young‑seok, highlighted that the improved efficiency could lower costs and enable brighter, longer‑lasting OLED displays without higher prices.
