Kings GM says Doughty wants to stay
Los Angeles Kings general manager Ken Holland reassured reporters that veteran defenseman Drew Doughty has no intention of leaving the franchise after the 2026‑27 season. Holland said the player’s passion for the Kings is clear and that the organization will find a solution that benefits both Doughty and the team. The Kings will not sign an extension for Doughty this off‑season, but the club will revisit the issue before he reaches unrestricted free agency on July 1. Doughty, 36, has spent 18 years with the Kings, playing 1,279 games, scoring 165 goals and 709 points, and winning two Stanley Cups, two Olympic gold medals and a silver at the 2026 Winter Games. He was named the franchise’s 15th captain on Wednesday. The GM emphasized that the player’s desire to stay aligns with the organization’s plans, and that the Kings are confident in keeping him beyond the current season.
