French Polynesia Protects Large Area of Ocean
French Polynesia gave the highest level of protection possible to an area of ocean the size of France. The protected area is home to whales, sharks, sea turtles, and species found nowhere else on Earth. Local communities will still be able to fish in traditional ways. This is the single biggest contribution any country has made so far towards the global goal of protecting 30% of the planet by 2030.
